But vegan and recycled materials are still in the developmentalphase, which means they need to undergo rigorous testing to ensurethey can endure the life cycle of the vehicle. "But where do we put the screen? Maserati puts it in a position that if you have your hands on the steering wheel, you can let your hand fall on the screen," Busse added. Certainly, nowhere have so many design studios been so far removed from the major centers of manufacturing. Mr. Mays already had a legacy because he can take much of the credit for VW's New Beetle, which is set to be one of the most talked about production car designs in many years. Although some would call it a retro car - a statement with which Mr. Mays vehemently disagrees - it has certainly put him on the map. So, it’s not surprising that so many design studios are located here in Southern California. We’re known for having the best weather in the country and San Diego probably the best climate in the country.

Volkswagen, which was dependent on Marcello Gandini, Giorgetto Giugiaro, and Karmann, later formed the contemporary design language along with Audi. BMW entered the automobile design with sporty-looking everyday sedans using Giovanni Michelotti. These models were later enhanced by Ercole Spada into the 1980s, and Klaus Luthe until the mid-1990s. The American-born designer Chris Bangle was hired by BMW in the late-1990s to redefine the brand. Bangle incorporated new single-press technology for compound curves to add controversial styling elements to his designs. And that concentrations of design studios are yet another reason that SoCal is the automotive capital of the United States as well as the automotive capital of the world.

Have you ever pondered the unique charm of Carnival Cruise interior rooms? Join me as we navigate through the intricacies of these well-designed staterooms. Located at the ship’s aft, a Premium Vista Balcony wraps around the ship’s corner, offering expansive views of both the ship’s side and rear.
Carnival is very much a family cruise line and so there are a lot of choices for Interior rooms if you want to have the kids in the same room as you. Pullman beds aren’t the biggest and so won’t be ideal for adults, though you may cope if you wanted to share a room with friends or teenage kids. Cruise Radio prioritizes well-balanced cruise news coverage and accurate reporting, paired with ship reviews and tips.
Book staterooms extra early for groups, ask for connecting rooms and consider these stateroom styles. While the majority of the fun will be located outside of your stateroom, you still want a comfortable “home away from home” that you can return to each evening and rest for the next day’s adventure. There’s no right or wrong answer on which is the best room on a Carnival cruise because it’s all dependent on the individual. You might be someone who feels claustrophobic in an Interior room, and if that’s the case then you definitely shouldn’t book one! It’s not worth making yourself feel uncomfortable just to save some money.
Our room was set extremely cold at night but the comforter kept us warm — borderline hot — while we slept. If you’re worried about thin blankets, then you can put those fears aside. The shower is a handheld wand shower, which raises and lowers to match anyone’s height.
Ocean view cabins
Every stateroom has amenities (including your dedicated room steward) that rival land-locked five-star hotels. Expect soft, cozy linens, in-room safes, plenty of storage space, television, climate control and even bathrobes upon request. So how do you select the best stateroom to ensure you’ll have a relaxing, comfortable cruise? We’ll help you put it all together with the following suggestions. Before you are ready to place the deposit on your Carnival cruise, you will have to choose what cabin category you’d like to stay in for the duration of your voyage.
Junior Suite (Obstructed View)
Starting before we even opened the door, the ship features RFID-style door locks. As you enter, you must put a card into a reader to turn on the lights. This helps to keep you from leaving the lights on when you aren’t in the room. However, it can be easy to walk out of the cabin and forget your keycard in the reader. Guests enjoy priority spa appointments, unlimited access to the Thermal Suite, spa discounts, and other exclusive perks like a complimentary body composition analysis. Both the room and the balcony are more spacious than standard balcony rooms.
The new Loft 19 enclave found on both Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration offers full bar service, a private pool surrounded by sun loungers and cabanas available for rent. Suites on Carnival ships also haven't traditionally come with butlers and access to private concierge lounges like the suites on many other vessels. Design-wise, Carnival's cabins and suites are fairly basic and comfortable, if not super stylish.
All cabin and suite mini-bars are stocked with premium liquors ($6-9,25), beer ($6,25), energy drinks ($5), soft soda/beverages ($2), bottled water ($3,75). In-cabin babysitting is not available (read more at Camp Ocean below). Cribs in cruise cabins are provided complimentary (upon request). In Main Dining Rooms are provided complimentary high chairs and booster seats.
For instance, on a seven-night Caribbean cruise, you might find balcony rooms priced at $909 per person, while an Ocean View room could be around $799. Typically, a balcony stateroom on Carnival might cost between $50 to $300 more per night than an Ocean View room. Imagine waking up to the gentle sound of waves and the first rays of the sun, all from the comfort of your private haven.
Porthole cabins are available on almost all Carnival ships – the exceptions are Spirit Class ships (Carnival Spirit, Carnival Miracle, Carnival Legend and Carnival Pride) and the newer Excel Class. Carnival Cruise Line doesn’t offer single rooms for solo travellers, but the Upper/Lower room is the nearest you’ll get. When the extra bed isn’t made up, it is essentially a single room. Deluxe Ocean View staterooms sleep up to five and come with an extra half-bath. Get all the comforts of home and then some, with absolutely none of the hassles.
Onboard every Carnival ship, you will find interior, ocean view, and balcony rooms, as well as suites for those looking to splurge and receive a couple extra perks. Each category has their own set of pros and cons, meaning that you'll have to weigh your options to determine what works best for you and your travel party. The Grand Vista Suite is the biggest, located on the uppermost deck… and all this altitude has a way of also elevating the view. As do floor-to-ceiling windows that make sure nothing gets in the way.
There are also soap and shampoo dispensers in the shower if you don’t bring your own. One other perk we liked was that pool/beach towels were already in the room for our use. Because of this we didn’t have to bother going to a towel station when we were ready to hit the pool. The exact price can vary based on several factors, including the cruise’s itinerary and the time of year.
Some Interior Upper/Lower rooms actually have small porthole windows. On most other cruise ships these would be classed as Ocean View, but Carnival classes any room with small portholes and Interior. An Interior stateroom on a cruise ship is one that is normally located on the inside of a ship away from the sides and does not have any windows. They’re normally the cheapest and smallest rooms on board and can sleep anywhere from 2 to 5 guests, depending on the cruise line.
On most ships, you'll find that the interior space of a balcony cabin measures around 185 square feet, while the balcony portion is around 35 square feet. Currently, the oldest ship in Carnival's fleet is Carnival Paradise. Onboard, you'll find more interior rooms than those with balconies.

They come with a single twin bed and either a Pullman bed or a sofa bed. Ideal for friends or solo travelers, some even feature small porthole windows, offering a hint of the ocean. The biggest suites on Carnival Panorama, the ship's eight Grand Suites, have 345 square feet of interior space, plus an 85-square-foot balcony.
Cloud 9 Spa Staterooms & Suites
Cabins on recently unveiled or overhauled vessels mostly have a soothing palette of creams and blues. As noted above, Carnival ships also have fewer suites than you'll find on the ships of some of its rival lines. By contrast, the line's newer ships have a higher percentage of inside cabins than you'll find on the newer ships of some rival lines.
lessons learned after trying Carnival for the first time
There are a variety of suite classes, from a Junior Suite, Ocean Suite, to a Grand Suite, and on the newer ships, Family Harbor Suites. This ship remains classic Carnival — fun-packed from bow to stern — but on the other hand, we've never stopped adding fresh new features. So now you can grab something cold, or sweet… or maybe even hot, at JavaBlue™ Café.
Terrazza Staterooms
Cloud 9 Spa accommodations guests have private access to the spa and are eligible for exclusive spa packages and discounts. One of the most popular and quick-to-sell categories across the Carnival fleet. This category has larger rooms, an expanded balcony size, and a whirlpool tub in every room. When it comes time to book a cruise, what type of stateroom you want to book is sometimes one of the deciding factors in finalizing the booking. Here are the major stateroom categories offered on Carnival Cruise Line.
The Carnival cruise ship Magic has a total of 35 wheelchair-accessible cabins (for disabled passengers) and 83 Cloud 9 Spa cabins (of them 24 Inside, 4 Ocean-view, 53 Balcony, and 4 Suite). Design is more than just the way things look — it’s as much about how they work. And staterooms aboard Mardi Gras are packed with innovative changes to both.
Interior Upper/Lower
Every one of the suites in those categories is bigger than any suite found on Carnival Panorama. Picking a cabin on a Carnival Cruise Line ship isn't nearly as complicated as picking a cabin on, say, a Royal Caribbean or a Celebrity Cruises ship. Elizabeth graduated from New York University's Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute with her M.A. Growing up, she had the privilege of traveling frequently with her family and fell in love with cruising after sailing on the Oasis of the Seas her freshman year of high school. She wanted to pursue a career that highlighted her passion for travel and strengths as a writer. Some of them are definitely more cramped than others, especially the Upper/Lower ones, but the cost savings could well make the difference to your overall cruise holiday.
Premium Vista Balcony Cabin
The Thermal Suites include dry heat chambers, steam chambers and a hydrotherapy pool, which you can use at any time during the cruise. A more affordable option is the Cove Balcony, which is located on the lower decks and is inset from the side of the ship. When you go for one of the largest, most luxurious rooms — and balcony — available on Carnival Paradise, you get a room designed to suit your desire for comfort, inside and out.
Though we were on a Thanksgiving cruise, we decorated our stateroom doors for Christmas.
Contrast that to the biggest suites on Royal Caribbean ships, which can measure more than 1,500 square feet. Keep in mind that some staterooms and features are exclusive to specific ships, so be sure to check out the amenities on board the ship you choose. You’ll sleep well knowing you’ve chosen the right spot for snoozing while cruising. Whether you’re cruising as a single parent or times two with kids in tow, you’ll effortlessly pack in more fun activities and bonding time than you ever thought possible on vacation. No matter what age your kids, there’s plenty of onboard entertainment that lets your family interact with favorite childhood characters and games.
You’ll find plenty of accessible staterooms from which to choose, whether you are traveling with a wheelchair, scooter or another device. Consider staying in the midship section where you’ll find extra elevators. The latter three come with additional perks that you might want for your cruise vacation, such as access to the exclusive Family Harbor lounge or Havana pool. I would say that a Porthole cabin isn’t worth paying any extra for compared to a standard Interior. Yes, you do get a tiny bit of natural light, but the thickness of the walls means that the amount is limited, as is the view. The number one reason that people choose to book an Interior cabin on a cruise is to save money.

On Carnival Panorama, some oceanview cabins measure 185 square feet — the same as inside cabins. But there also are bigger "standard" oceanview cabins that measure 220 square feet and "deluxe" oceanview cabins that measure 230 square feet. On many cruise ships, inside cabins are smaller than oceanview and balcony cabins. On Carnival Panorama, for instance, most inside cabins measure 185 square feet. That's the same size as the interior area of some oceanview and most balcony cabins on the ship (not including the extra square footage from the balcony).
You’ll notice that Family Harbor staterooms sport a classically American nautical décor... As you explore the rest of the ship, the Family Harbor benefits come along, with your kids eating free in most onboard specialty restaurants... Plus one free evening of Night Owls babysitting service, so you can enjoy some much-deserved alone time. Since 2017, Carnival Cruise Line offers a new program allowing ship passengers to customize their steward service by choosing to have the cabin serviced in the morning, at night or both (twice a day). All guests can choose from a list of additional cabin amenities, among which are bathrobes, extra pillows, blankets, closet hangers.
If you’re seeking value and don’t mind the absence of a view, an interior room is a fantastic choice. But if natural light is a must-have, consider rooms with portholes or even upgrading to an Ocean View stateroom. Carnival Cruise Line offers a diverse range of interior rooms, each with its unique charm. From rooms with portholes to those with obstructed views, there’s something for everyone.
An obstructed view balcony room might have a lifeboat or some other ship equipment blocking a portion of the view. Whether you’re a seasoned cruiser or planning your first voyage, this article will illuminate the nuances of balcony rooms, ensuring you get the most out of your oceanic adventure. Embarking on a Carnival Cruise is an experience like no other, and one of the most sought-after accommodations on these majestic ships is the balcony room.
Below are our thoughts and impressions from staying in the cabin. These rooms, either category 4J or 4K, have windows that offer limited views due to obstructions like lifeboats. While the view might be restricted, the influx of natural light can be a game-changer for many.
Note that Carnival's two oldest ships — those that are part of the 1990s-built Fantasy Class — have relatively few balcony cabins by today's standards. Before you book your cruise, you will want to know which stateroom you should call your own. Getting familiar with the types of staterooms helps you choose the sleeping space that offers you the most comfort based on your personal preferences and personality.
